Round Robin: The Slide Show

This little book left my possession on January 2, 2009, with a cover, sign-in page and my page created for my chosen theme: Carry Me Back (to a place or time of your choosing)

This little book returned to me on June 1, 2009 filled with art from five fabulous friends.

Thanks so much girls for the beautiful work. I will treasure it always.

Enjoy this slideshow and let it carry you back to all the wonderful times and places that fill my book!

 Ok, now you can look:
(Don't enlarge yet or you lose the soundtrack)

This is the conclusion of our Board book Round Robin.
The last book that I worked in was Linda's: Songs of our Lives
Since the beginning of the RR, I had one song in mind.
I even had elements collected for it.

But I changed my mind at the very last minute.

I'm glad I did.  I love how this turned out.

Now tell the truth:  did that song make you smile??

Robin's Egg Blue

April was my month to work in Barbara's book.  She asked us to use the theme 'self-portrait'.   I like how this theme challanged me, even frustrated me a bit.  It made me think about how to portray who I am in my art.   The result is a piece I am proud of.
As in any good piece of art, there is more here than meets the eye: layers, contrasts, symbolism--everything is placed for a purpose.
Most of the time my art just happens.  I'm good with that.  I enjoy it.  But this theme really struck a chord with me.  It was good for me.  While it probably wasn't her original intention, I'm grateful for the challange Barbara's theme presented me.  The process helped me grow.

The biggest step: not using a speck pink!!

Round Robin - My Favorite Book

My layout for Lisa M's book:

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
by Betty Smith

The delight of this piece was how I first envisioned it in my head, sketched it on a scrap, and then watched it develop into reality on the page.   It was so different for me to work on a piece knowing the outcome from the start.  Usually there is a starting point with no definite destination in mind, just stopping when it looks done--the old flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants method.

Round Robin, Round 3

Cindy asked us to depict what we considered the most beautiful part of the world in her book "It's a Wonderful World". One of the most beautiful places to me, especially this time of year, is the world I see everyday: my own backyard.

I love trees and lots of them. I drink in the beauty of these flowering trees every spring:

"I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree."

This is an interactive page with many pockets and tags.
Here is a peek at one of them.
I will leave the others for you Round Robin ladies to see in person.

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see 'em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

Now, if I can Just. Get. This. Song. Out. Of. My. Head!

As promised, I am posting the layout I did for Tammy's book. In our Round Robin, we are doing board books with each participant choosing her own theme. Tammy's book is called "Cozy Cottage." The book even has a bit of a house shape to it. When I was thinking through my interpretation of cozy, I kept coming back to nests and mothers. This is how I portrayed those cozy thoughts in collage:

Whether you are the child of a human or a baby bird,
whether you live in a house or a nest,
when it comes to cozy creature comforts,
HOME is always best. **
**I wrote that as one line, but when i discovered it rhymed I turned it into a poem! I'm a poet and didn't know it!! :)
